2012 Hometown Heroes Soccer Fundraiser

READING, PA. (August 6, 2012) Reading United A.C. is again partnering with members of the Reading United Fun League, S.A.A.R.A. (Social Activities for the Associates of the Reading Area), and other local businesses and organizations to present the “2012 Hometown Heroes Soccer Fundraiser”.
The event will be held on Saturday, August 18th at 4:00PM on the campus of Exeter High School’s Don Thomas Stadium.  This annual community event will be held free-of-charge to the public, but all accepted donations will benefit the following fantastic charities:

The Michael H. Wise II Memorial Foundation (http://www.wisememorial.com)
Officer Scott A. Wertz Memorial Scholarship Funds (http://www.officerscottwertzmemorialride.com)
The Kyle Pagerly Memorial Fund (http://www.kylepagerly5k.com)

The event will feature a casual and fun soccer re-match between the Berks County Law Enforcement and the RUFL “Stars”.  Last year, Law Enforcement pulled out a dramatic 3-2 win with a decisive strike in the 85th minute.  This year, State Representative Mark Gillen will begin the day by sending out an honorary “First Kick” to Savannah Kylie Pagerly, daughter of Hero Kyle Pagerly.  State Representative Dave Maloney will also be in attendance, with the honor of performing the game’s opening coin toss.  Families of these heroes will be honored in both Pre-game and Halftime ceremonies. The event will also feature a CAN’T MISS honorary K-9 demonstration.  Emergency vehicles, including Spring Township’s flagship Fire Engine, will be on display, and will hand out coloring books and hard hats for all children in attendance.
To help support these fine charities, donations will be collected and fabulous raffle prizes are available to win. Refreshments will be on-sale throughout the day, including delicious sandwiches provided by Pig Pit USA, and Rita’s Italian Ice.  A portion of all food and drink purchased will go to these charities.

Unable to attend?  You can still support this event by purchasing $10.00 donation cards at the fine local businesses below.  You can also directly contact John Cusatis john@readingunitedac.com.  100% of the proceeds will be divided among the 3 charities.

John Cusatis, Reading United Director of Community Relations, stated, “RUFL is aimed at connecting groups of people with fun on the field, and community improvement off of it.  Last year we put together a great event to honor these 3 great men and their families.  Due to the overwhelming support received, I wanted to make this an annual event to honor all Law Enforcement, particularly Kyle, Scott and Mike.  We look forward to putting on another great event and raise money and awareness for 3 great causes.  We hope the community is able to come out and enjoy the day.”

Art Auchenbach Reading United President, “Reading United is excited once again to assist the members of the Reading United Fun League and our local heroes. We are proud that the game of soccer can be the vehicle to recognize our fantastic local law enforcement heroes who gave their all to protect our communities. We look forward to a great crowd for this fun filled community event”
