Reading United alumni Deshorn Brown has accepted his Generation Adidas contract and will be eligible for selection in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft on January 17th, 2013. Brown joins former Reading United stars Zarek Valentin, Corey Hertzog and Andrew Wenger as the club’s fourth member of Generation Adidas. The standout forward led the Premier Development League with 13 goals for Reading United in the 2012 season.
Brown’s 2012 PDL form carried over to the college season were he enjoyed a very successful junior year at the University of Central Florida, scoring 13 goals and registering 3 assists to earn All Conference USA First Team honors. Ives Galarcep of FOX Soccer describes Brown as, “arguably the fastest player in the draft, Brown is a burner who should cement his status as a top prospect at the Combine.”
Reading United Head Coach & Philadelphia Union Assistant Coach Brendan Burke praised Brown’s abilities, “Deshorn had 13 goals in 13 games for us. His size, pace, and effectiveness around the box will make him someone who can immediately translate to the MLS level.”
United’s Technical Director Troy Snyder sees good things ahead for Brown. “Deshorn is an explosive player and very opportunistic around the box. His athletic ability, speed and strength will assist him tremendously as he prepares and adjusts for the next level. His time in Reading was well spent. Playing in only a little over half the season, he was the nation’s leading goal scorer in the USL PDL. As his work rate improves, he will be an asset for an MLS team!”
