READING, PA (June 19, 2017) – Reading United A.C. get ready to host Evergreen FC on Tuesday, June 20th in a match that will mark the halfway-point of United’s 2017 Premier Development League season. Reading (5-1-0) come off a spectacular late win against division-leaders NY Red Bulls U23, with a stunning goal by midfielder Aaron Molloy securing the victory. Along with a successful strike from Marco Micaletto, this was enough to overcome the lead that Red Bulls took earlier in the second half. The victory was the fourth in a row for United, who haven’t suffered a defeat since the last time they played the Red Bulls U23 team.

Reading United look to continue their dominant form against Evergreen FC (1-6-1), who are coming off of a hard-fought loss against the Ocean City Nor’easters. Lewis Long scored in the first half, but this solitary goal wasn’t enough to overcome Ocean City, who currently sit above Reading in the Mid-Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference with 18 points in nine games. Long leads his team in goals this season, finding the back of the net four times in league play.

The two teams met for the first time this season on June 6th at the Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Virginia, with Reading claiming a 5-2 victory. United captain Frantzdy Pierrot bagged a spectacular hat trick during this game and was named to the PDL Team of the Week. The forward is Reading’s leading goalscorer this season, having found the back of the net four times in as many games. Also scoring for United was defender Evan Finnegan and midfielder Hugo Delhommelle, who also earned himself an assist, bringing his season totals to three goals and five assists.

Reading United and Evergreen FC met twice last year, with both matches won comfortably by Reading with scores of 5-0 and 7-1. Current Reading forward Paul Marie, who ended up the team’s leading scorer last year with seven goals, scored two in the first game, and captain Pierrot scored two and assisted one in the second matchup between the teams. As a newly formed expansion team in 2016, this was the Virginia squad’s first foray into the Premier Development League.

Tuesday’s match is important for both squads as Reading set their sights toward first place and Evergreen look to climb their way up the table. Reading currently sit third in the standings behind New York and Ocean City, but have two games in hand relative to Red Bulls and three versus the Nor’easters. A win on Tuesday is critical in United’s quest to win the division for the second season in a row and advance to the playoffs.

Reading United will wrap up their three game homestand at Don Thomas Stadium on Friday, June 23rd when they host the Ocean City Nor’easters in Premier Development League action. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm with tickets available online. All United home matches throughout the 2017 PDL season will be played at Exeter Township Senior High School.
