Cedar Stars show to be a tough road test for Reading in their inaugural season

TEANECK, NJ (May 28, 2019) – Reading United packs their bags and heads on the road for the third time in four games to open their USL League Two season, facing the newest addition to the Mid Atlantic Division, Cedar Stars Rush. This will be the first match-up between the two sides, as the opposing side operating out of Fairleigh Dickinson University looks to make a jump to the top-tier of the divisional table.

Reading rides in on a 21-game regular season unbeaten streak and an 11-game unbeaten streak on the road, both streaks dating back to a 1-0 loss to Ocean City back on July 2, 2017. Since that loss, Reading has ripped off a 9-0-2 run while travelling, outscoring opponents 26-8 over that span.

United come in to this game on top of the divisional table with two early road victories already to their credit. The biggest victory was this last Wednesday with a 3-2 victory against New York Red Bulls U23. A late 86th minute winner by Kalil ElMedkhar was the difference, as Reading notched their first-ever road victory against the Red Bulls.

Simon Becher has led the charge for Reading early in the season, tied for sixth in the league in scoring with three goals in two appearances. Alban Rousselet and Goncalo Garcia are both tied for fourth in the league in assists, both notching two helpers in two games.

Cedar Stars have found a groove lately, picking up all five of their points following a season opening 2-0 loss to Long Island. Back-to-back ties against FA Euro and Evergreen were followed with a 2-1 statement win this weekend against New York Red Bulls U23 at home.

Reading United will have the weekend off following this game, before travelling to Long Island for another important road test. The next Reading United home game will be June 8th against Evergreen FC. $5 tickets are available online at readingunitedac.com/tickets, and will jump to $10 at the gate. Season tickets are only $20 and will cover all six remaining league home games, and are available at the same link.
