PLAYER PROFILE: Gian Scalise

In celebration of Latin Heritage Night next Wednesday, Reading United is taking the time to recognize the Latin American players who make up the team. For the fans to get to know a little bit more about the players they are cheering on, we sat down and talked to them about their heritage, home, and changes they made to play a sport they love.

Gian Scalise is originally from Argentina, and has been a solid addition at left back for home victories over Evergreen and Ocean City.  The Reading United defender was most recently at Clemson University.

 

Where are you from?

“Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina.”

 

When did you start playing for Reading United?

“I started playing for RU on June 6th, 2019.”

 

How has your time been playing for Reading United?

“It’s a competitive and professional environment during the week. Great support system from coaching staff and fans.”

 

When and what got you into playing soccer?

“Argentina football is just something you play growing up.”

 

What do you like most about the game of soccer?

“Pressure of having to preform, and the friendships.”

 

What is your family like?

“I have six sisters and two brothers. My twin and I are the youngest.”

 

Is there anything specific you miss about home?

“Family barbeque get-togethers every weekend.”

 

Are there any similarities about home and here? Anything that reminds you of home?

"Teammates Marco and Maxi (Galizzi).”

 

What is your favorite thing to do at home?

“Drink mate and watch Netflix series.”

 

Has soccer opened any doors for you?

Soccer has given me the possibility to travel to many places, and earn a university degree.”

 

Have you formed any connections because of your heritage?

“Bilingual work possibilities.”

“I absolutely love cleaning while listening to music.”
