PLAYER PROFILE: Sergio Pinto

In celebration of Latin Heritage Night next Wednesday, Reading United is taking the time to recognize the Latin American players who make up the team. For the fans to get to know a little bit more about the players they are cheering on, we sat down and talked to them about their heritage, home, and changes they made to play a sport they love.

Sergio Pinto is originally from Mexico, and has shown in minutes against FA Euro and Evergreen this season.  The Reading United midfielder showcases his talents at Presbyterian University in the fall.

 

Where are you from?

“I’m from Mexico, born and raised.”

 

When did you start playing for Reading United?

“I started playing for Reading United this summer.”

 

How has your time been playing for Reading United?

“I’ve enjoyed my time at RU so far, good environment on and off the field, getting to know new people from all over the world.”

 

When and what got you into playing soccer?

“I started playing when I was 4, my dad got me into it.”

 

What do you like most about the game of soccer?

“What I like the most about the game is being competitive and being able to know new people from different backgrounds, making new friends.”

 

What is your family like?

“I have two brothers, a younger and an older one – but they don’t like soccer.”

 

Is there anything specific you miss about home?

“What I miss most about being home is my family, friends and the food.”

 

Are there any similarities about home and here? Anything that reminds you of home?

“I don’t think there are any similarities between Reading and Mexico City.”

 

What is your favorite thing to do at home?

“When I’m home I like spending time with my friends and family.”

 

Has soccer opened any doors for you?

“Soccer has allowed me to get an education in the US, get to know other people and learn about other cultures.”

 

Have you formed any connections because of your heritage?

“More than my heritage in specific, I’ve been able to form connections because of the language, being able to communicate with other Hispanic people.”

 

Fun Fact?

“My favorite food is tacos, and I like watching and practicing any other sport other than soccer as well.”
