Reading United will look to right the ship this week in a Friday night contest against Philadelphia Lone Star

Reading United will look to right the ship this week in a Friday night contest against Philadelphia Lone Star F.C. This is The Lone Star’s first season in USL League Two and is currently tied for 4th place in the Eastern Conference Mid Atlantic Division, three slots above Reading United. In NPSL action, Lone Star is tied for first place in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.

LAST TIME OUT: Lone Star kicked off the season in a similar fashion to Reading United dropping their first two matches before picking up a win against Lehigh Valley United. However, Lone Star fell 2-1 to Northern Virginia United in NPSL play on May 23. This match saw Lone Star add to their list of goal scorers, but lackluster defensive play late ended up spoiling the first half of hard work.

PLETHORA OF PRODUCTION: Lone Star’s leading goal scorer on paper is forward Aboubacar Camara with two goals netted, but the majority of the offense runs through midfielder Patrick Singbah (one goal, two assists). Seven other players have either scored or assisted on at least one goal through the first five games.

LAST MEETING: These two sides squared off in the U.S. Open Cup's first round at Alvernia University back in 2019. Jeremy Rafanello had an early brace for the home side, who darted out to an early 2-0 lead. Philadelphia Lone Star cut into the deficit in the 2nd half, and nearly took the lead if not for a questionable offside call that kept Reading on top by one. A late red card by eventual Reading United midfielder Yaya Fane sealed the deal on the 2-1 victory over two years ago.
