Division leaders come to Reading for second meeting of the season

READING, PA (June 11, 2021) –  Reading United looks to avenge an early season loss to West Chester United tomorrow evening at Don Thomas Stadium. It will be the annual Kicks Against Cancer Night at the stadium, where the team will be wearing special pink jerseys and auction them off during the game. Proceeds will benefit non-profit organizations dedicated to fighting cancer and its effects. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.

Reading made two costly mistakes on their side of the field early on in the first matchup between these two clubs in a 2-0 loss back on May 19th. Gilbertsville, Pa-native Leon Maric and former United midfielder Troy Amspacher pounced on goals in the fifth and seventh minutes of play for the home side. Maric and Amspacher currently lead West Chester’s attack with four goals apiece, while Maric has also tallied three assists.

Reading is coming off of a 4-2 loss to Philadelphia Lone Star, a game that saw a second half lead evaporate over the course of eight minutes of game time. Seth Kuhn dropped in a free kick from 20 yards out in the 4th minute and Andrea DiSomma netted his first goal in a United kit in the second half, as Reading held a 2-1 advantage in the 54th minute. 65th, 67th, and 73rd minute. The loss was Reading’s fourth of the season, as they now stand at 1-4-1 through six games.

West Chester has barreled into the second half of their season with a 6-1-1 record - their lone blemish a late game collapse against Ocean City Nor’easters on the road. The visiting club has only given up four goals against in eight games, as they roll into Reading on the back end of a five-game road stretch. West Chester is 3-1 on the road which includes 3-0 and 5-0 victories in the final two games against Real Central Jersey and Lehigh Valley, respectively.

Kicks Against Cancer Night is an annual tradition entrenched deep in Reading United’s lore that dates back to former general manager/owner/player Archie Moylan’s battle with cancer. Thousands of dollars have been raised for local families, non-profits, and foundations such as the Anthony Myers Movement that not only search for a cure, but also aid those who are currently battling. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off during the game, with fans able to take pictures and get autographs postgame with the player of their choosing.

Tickets are available at readingunitedac.com/tickets for only $5 in advance, or $10 at the gate. For those not local to Reading, the game can be viewed at readingunitedac.com/live.
