Annual Hometown Heroes Night provides the backdrop for the rubber match

READING, PA (July 1, 2021) –  Reading United will host Philadelphia Lone Star FC in the second of four consecutive home games to end the regular season. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm, gates open at Don Thomas Stadium on the campus of Exeter Township Senior High School at 6:00pm.

Friday’s game is our annual Hometown Heroes game. All military, police, fire, and medical professionals will be allowed into the game for free - just show your badge at the gate for entry. Otherwise, tickets are $5 for everyone else in advance at readingunitedac.com/tickets or $10 at the gate.

The two teams have split the season series, each grabbing one win from two games against one another. The first game, on May 28, ended in a 1-0 Reading United win. The most recent matchup ended 4-2 in favor of Philadelphia on June 5.

Lyam MacKinnon net the game winner for Reading in the first matchup, while Jonas Dieseler got the clean sheet in net. In the 4-2 loss, Seth Kuhn and Andrea Disomma scored for Reading, giving Reading two different one goal leads during the game. It wasn’t enough, though, as four different Lone Star players scored, including three goals in a short time span in the second half that dashed Reading’s hopes of pulling in a three-game sweep.

Last time out, Reading’s Quantrell Jones made three clutch saves to preserve the clean sheet in a 0-0 draw against Real Central New Jersey.

Reading is 2-1 all-time against Philadelphia, including their 2021 matchups and a 2-1 U.S. Open Cup victory in 2019 that saw United advance to the second round of the competition.

Philadelphia has suffered two straight 2-1 losses. Lone Star is 5-7-0 this season, giving the team 15 points and fourth place in the Mid Atlantic division, one spot ahead of Reading. Lone Star fell 2-1 to first place West Chester last time out. Connor Manning scored the only goal for Philadelphia.
