Midfielder from UMBC selected to 2021 USL League Two Eastern Conference Team of the Year

TAMPA, FL (August 26, 2021) –  USL League Two yesterday announced Reading United midfielder Ryan Becher was selected to the 2021 USL League Two Eastern Conference Team of the Year. Becher became the 19th player in Reading United history to receive an all-conference nod.

Selections for the 2021 USL League Two Eastern Conference Team of the Year were determined by peer voting. Each League Two club submitted a ballot for multiple players at each position, and the players receiving the most votes were named to the Team of the Year.

Becher was an invaluable piece of the United midfield this past summer, playing in a dozen games. The UMBC-product played 1,076 minutes for Reading, tallying three goals. On top of recording the highest number of minutes for United this summer, Becher also greatly assisted the Reading defense in maintaining three clean sheets.

It marks the fifth consecutive season Reading has placed a player on the All-Eastern Conference squad, a five-year stretch that included nominations of San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Paul Marie, Forward Madison midfielder Aaron Molloy, CF Montreal defender Kamal Miller, and New York Red Bulls 2 defender Lamine Conte.

Other players of note on the team include former Reading United players Simon Becher and Conor Bradley. Becher played on Reading’s 2019 squad, scoring seven goals in ten games for the eventual USL League Two Runners-up. This year, Becher punched in 11 goals for the Ocean City Nor’easters to lead the team. Conor Bradley played in 93 minutes for the 2018 Reading team, but saw time in 943 minutes for West Chester this year, contributing one goal and one assist.
