Reading inks five from last year's squad to USL League Two roster

READING, PA (April 12, 2022) – Reading United has signed five returning players to its 2022 USL League Two roster, the team announced on Tuesday. Ryan Becher, Josh Daniels, Alex Hajj, Raimondo Partito, and Mackie Sacarellos will all don the United badge again this season, pending league and federation approval.

Becher returns after a 2021 season that saw him named to the USL League Two Eastern Conference Team of the Year, becoming the 19th United player to receive an all-conference nod. The Hummelstown, Pa. product played over 1000 minutes for Reading last season, tallying three goals. A junior at UMBC, Becher was rated as the 12th best player in the America East Conference, receiving Third Team All-Region honors after a seven goal, 19 point season in midfield for the Retrievers.

A native of Fleetwood, Pa., Daniels sticks close to home for another season with United. A junior at West Chester, Daniels made 14 starts in 16 appearances for the Golden Rams with a team-best seven assists - good enough for a spot on the PSAC East First Team. The midfielder saw time in two games for Reading last year, taking one shot. Daniels was a standout at Oley Valley High School, as well as for FC Revolution.

Hajj figures to slot in as a winger in Casey Moore’s offense, a spot that saw him make nine appearances for Reading last season and registering an assist. A Douglassville, Pa.-native, Hajj appeared in eight matches at Monmouth this past season, making four starts. The redshirt senior also marks a long line of YSC Academy graduates to feature in Reading.

Partito was a staple of the Reading United defense last season, seeing time in 13 games along the back line. The Rutgers-Camden product was equally as important for the Scarlet Raptors this year, notching 16 starts while earning All-NJAC Honorable Mention.

Sacarellos was equally a stalwart along the United back line, playing opposite of Partito on the left. The UMBC product played in 13 games for Reading last year, totalling over 900 minutes. Sacarellos played in 19 games for the Retrievers this past season, making ten starts and recording an assist.

Reading United opens its 2022 season on the road on Saturday, May 14th against Lehigh Valley United at Moravian College. United will play its first home game a week later, facing Philadelphia Lone Star on May 21st beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Alvernia University.
