Local rivals meet up for the first time in 2022 season

READING, PA (May 18, 2022) – Reading United travels to West Chester to face off against the other “other” United in the Mid Atlantic Division on Wednesday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. It marks the fourth meeting between the two sides, meeting three times in the 2021 campaign.

The teams share a common bond through more than just the Pennsylvania Turnpike, but seemingly enough players moving from one side to the other that you could practically call West Chester “Reading United South”. West Chester had four former Reading players in its lineup in a 4-2 victory over Lehigh Valley United on Monday evening - Marcus Brenes, Josh Dubost, and Jacob Gosselin all featured for last year’s squad, while Spencer Burkhardt had a hand in Reading’s trips to the USL League Two Final in 2018 and 2019. Former Reading players Troy Amspacher, Conor Bradley, Yusuf Cueceoglu, and Ramzi Qawasmy are also listed on West Chester’s roster, while Reading picked off Ammit Bhogal from WCU.

They both share a common opponent in the early goings - Reading fought to a 1-1 draw this past weekend against Lehigh Valley, while West Chester rolled to a 4-2 victory. A 93rd minute goal from LVU snatched three points away from Reading in the season opener, as Maxime Correia’s 24th minute putback off a free kick nearly stood up as the game winner. West Chester’s Dominick Bachstein stands out as one to watch, netting a hat trick against LVU - with former United players Josh Dubost and Marcus Brenes combining for assists on the first goal. 2021 Reading forward Jacob Gosselin netted an 87th minute goal for insurance in the win.

Last season, the two sides met thrice, with West Chester taking all three meetings by slim margins and shutouts. The most recent meeting was a 1-0 blanking on June 23, 2021 where a 16th minute goal from Troy Amspacher lasted the remainder as the game winner.

United will return to play its first home game on Saturday, facing Philadelphia Lone Star on May 21st beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Alvernia University. Season and game day tickets are available for purchase at readingunitedac.com. $25 season tickets will be available until 12:00 noon on Saturday, and will not be available for purchase at the gate.
