54th meeting between Reading and Ocean City is on deck at 7:00 p.m. tonight

READING, PA (June 17, 2022) – Reading United plays host to the Mid Atlantic Division-leading Ocean City Nor’easters for the 54th meeting between the two clubs - continuing the longest active rivalry in all of the United Soccer League umbrella on Saturday evening. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. at Alvernia University between two of the most storied clubs in USL League Two.

The two clubs have already met once this season, with Ocean City bouncing out to a two-goal lead in the first 23 minutes of the contest, then holding on for a 2-0 victory. The teams finished nearly equal in shots, with the Nor’easters holding a 15-13 margin and doubling United’s effort with a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. The win gave Ocean City a 23-22-8 lead in the overall series.

Ocean City has continued its season opening run at the top of the Mid Atlantic Division with five straight victories. The Nor’easters polished off their most recent victory with a 3-1 win over Lehigh Valley United last Saturday - part of a home and home series with LVU that included a 2-1 home victory on Wednesday, June 8. Nicolas Cam Orellana and Alessandro Arlotti pace Ocean City with four goals each, with Arlotti also adding in three assists. Felix Schafer and Ben Martino have shared time in net, with Schafer leading the club with 17 saves and a 0.64 goals against average.

Reading enters the contest well rested, following a 3-0 forfeit victory due to field conditions at Philadelphia Lone Star last Saturday evening. The club has just a loss to Ocean City to the negative, picking up points in the other six contests to date. United sit firmly in third place with 12 points in a tightly contested division, right behind Ocean City and West Chester United’s 16 points. A United victory would keep the club firmly in third place, just a point behind the leaders entering tonight’s round of matchups.

United are paced by a handful of goal scorers, including Marten Imping, Isak Sedin, and Talla Faye. All enter tonight’s contest with a pair of goals. Sedin and Ryan Becher account for a pair of assists on the offensive end. The pairing of Eoin Gawronski and Russell Shealy account for the club’s efforts in net, with Gawronski holding a 1.33 goals against average and 14 saves to pace the team.

United head off on the road for three straight games before returning home in July for a trio of Saturday dates. July 2, 9, and 16 will be filled with soccer action at Alvernia University with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff planned for each contest. Game day tickets for all remaining home dates are available for purchase at readingunitedac.com for just $7+fees or for $10 at the gate.
