Reading and reigning division champion WCU do battle this evening

READING, PA (June 21, 2022) – Reading United travels to West Chester for a battle of the Uniteds in USL League Two action, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Kildare’s Field. This is the second meeting between the two sides, as Reading took its first ever victory against its neighbors to the south back on May 18th.

After losing all three meetings last year, Reading shocked the defending division champions with a 3-1 win on the road back in mid-May. Talla Faye got on the board in the 25th minute for a 1-0 lead, which was matched just six minutes later. Ryan Kuster and Isak Sedin stunned the home team with two second half goals to snag a 3-1 road victory in the early goings of the season.

West Chester bounced back after the loss, with only a loss to division-leading Ocean City to its detriment in six games. United enter tonight’s game on a three-game unbeaten streak, including a pair of victories against Real Central New Jersey (1-0) and Philadelphia Lone Star (5-1). Game statistics for the four-goal victory last Tuesday evening were still unavailable at the time of this press release, but we’re sure it was impressive.

Reading enters the contest off of its second loss of the season - both coming at the hands of Ocean City. After giving up an early goal in the 8th minute, United nearly clawed back an equalizer in the second half on multiple occasions. A spark of life from second half substitutions nearly made the difference in the 54th contest against the Nor’easters, but dropped Reading to 3-2-3 on the season.

The teams share a common bond through more than just the Pennsylvania Turnpike, but seemingly enough players moving from one side to the other that you could practically call West Chester “Reading United South”. West Chester had four former Reading players in its lineup in a 4-2 victory over Lehigh Valley United on Monday evening - Marcus Brenes, Josh Dubost, and Jacob Gosselin all featured for last year’s squad, while Spencer Burkhardt had a hand in Reading’s trips to the USL League Two Final in 2018 and 2019. Former Reading players Troy Amspacher, Conor Bradley, Yusuf Cueceoglu, and Ramzi Qawasmy are also listed on West Chester’s roster, while Reading picked off Ammit Bhogal from WCU.

The matchup marks the first three straight games for Reading before returning home in July for a trio of Saturday dates. July 2, 9, and 16 will be filled with soccer action at Alvernia University with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff planned for each contest. Game day tickets for all remaining home dates are available for purchase at readingunitedac.com for just $7+fees or for $10 at the gate.
