READING, PA (January 31, 2023) –  Reading United A.C. is excited to announce Thomas "Goose" Gosselin as the new Head Coach for the inaugural season of Reading United Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) team.  With extensive experience in coaching women’s soccer and a passion for the sport, Gosselin is well equipped to lead the team to its first successful year.

"’Goose’ brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program," said Christian Bauer, President of Reading United AC. "His strong track record speaks for itself and we are confident that he will set a strong foundation for our WPSL team."

In addition to coaching the women’s team for Reading United AC, Gosselin is the current Assistant Coach of the Penn State Berks University men and women’s soccer teams, a position he has held since 2016.  Prior, Gosselin spent time as Mount St Mary’s University Women Head Coach from 2007-2015, where he set a program record for coaching victories at his alma mater.  Before returning to the Mount, Gosselin was the head coach of the McDaniel College women’s program from 2003-2007.

A Berks County local, Gosselin coached the Wyomissing High School girls soccer team from 1993-1999, and serves as Director of College Placement with Reading Rage Soccer Club. While at Wyomissing, Gosselin was named Berks County Coach of the Year in 1996 after leading the Spartans to a county championship. He also assisted the boy’s team towards a 1994 State Championship and another appearance in the Finals in 1996.

Under Gosselin’s leadership, the team will strive to not only achieve victories on the field, but to also develop and empower local female athletes, coaches, and staff. The team looks forward to embarking on its first season under Gosselin’s guidance.  Gosselin said, "I am extremely honored to be selected to coach the inaugural Reading United A.C. WPSL team.  As a Berks County native, I am so excited for the opportunity this league will provide to the plethora of local talent."

Reading United Vice President Art Auchenbach added, “Tom knows women’s soccer and we are equally excited about his local presence and willingness to work with Christian, myself, and our staff in developing this team to be a pinnacle for all our local players. Lastly, we are excited that he will work with us to spearhead the training & opportunities for local women coaches and staff in the game.”

Reading United A.C. continues its preparation for the upcoming 2023 season with open tryouts for its men’s USL League Two and women’s WPSL teams on March 5th and 12th from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Alvernia University’s turf field. The team will utilize Alvernia as its home field for both teams, with USL League Two and WPSL schedules soon to be announced by the respective leagues.
