United’s 24th season opens in Lehigh Valley, first home date slated for May 25th

READING, PA (January 30, 2019) – USL League Two has revealed the full schedule for the 2019 season, set to kick-off in May. Reading will play a 14 match schedule in the league’s Mid-Atlantic Division, where they look to repeat as champions and claim their third division title in four years. The 2019 season will mark the 10th year of Reading United’s affiliation with Philadelphia Union, and 24th season overall for the Berks County club.

Last season saw Reading reach new heights, with the squad collecting their third PDL Eastern Conference crown, en route to their first PDL Championship appearance in franchise history. Four United players were named to the All-Eastern Conference team, while Aaron Molloy also notched All-PDL honors. The team also collected hardware off the field at the league meetings in December, named as the league’s Franchise of the Year.

United open the 2019 season with three of their first four games on the road, including their season opener against Lehigh Valley United on May 11th. Reading

Reading will then travel to New Jersey on May 22nd to take on an important early season test against the New York Red Bulls U23. United defeated a feisty Red Bulls squad by a 2-1 margin in a rain soaked 2018 PDL Eastern Conference Final.

Memorial Day Weekend will see Reading United play host to F.A. Euro for their home opener on May 25th. The match will be the first chance for fans to catch the Blue and Gold in league action since nearly 2500 fans attended the PDL Championship at Gurski Stadium last August.

The homecoming will be short lived, as the squad will travel back to the Garden State three days later for their first ever match against Cedar Stars Rush. Reading will then travel to Long Island on June 5th to face the Rough Riders, a likely challenger to their divisional crown.

United will then alternate home and away dates through the majority of June, part of a stretch that will see them play five games in a 14 day span. Reading starts by playing at home against Evergreen Hammers on June 8th, then on the road at F.A. Euro on June 12th, at home against Ocean City Nor’easters on June 15th, then back on the road to face Evergreen again on June 19th. While a daunting task, a deep Reading United squad should be able to capitalize on a group of teams that Reading outscored by a 21-4 margin during their 2018 meetings.

Reading will finish their 2019 regular season with four of their final five games back at home during arguably their toughest stretch of the season. United will play the three teams who finished directly behind them last season, with dates at home against Long Island Rough Riders on June 26th, at home against New York Red Bulls U23 on June 29th, then on the road against Ocean City on July 7th.

Two home games against Cedar Stars Rush on July 10th and Lehigh Valley United on July 14th will conclude Reading’s regular season campaign.
